She is one day visited by Licia - a demon from Hell. Licia demands that Rie make her delicious food throughout the course of a week or she will reap her soul. Licia is here on a "vacation" to see what earth is like, and Rie becomes her caregiver throughout the course of a six day period. Although resisitive to having Licia around at first, Rie is unable to resist Licia's innocent, friendly and loving nature and learns that having a friend isn't so bad after all. The two girls bond through their mutual love of food and through their opposite but also complimentary personalities. The game has great music, cute and colorful artwork and backgrounds, and features tons of photos of yummy looking food! The photos of the food and ebi-hime's descriptions made me feel really hungry. To read through all of the unique dialogue, it took me about 4 hours in total. There are a total of 5 different endings, a wide variety of gallery art, and also additional things such as: concept art, cut content that never made it into the game, and the writer's thoughts on each character. Would recommend to those who like a very tame and light hearted VN (no swearing, nudity, etc), and for those who like ebi-hime's other workings.. Adorable! I really enjoy the VNs by this author and this artist, they’re both amazing. It was super cute, full of delicious food and cute scenes. There’s also a good amount of endings (6), and it’s really worth even on full price (if you have some sparing money… Otherwise, wait for a good sale).Art style, BG, BGM, characters, and story were great. The food was also so good, haha. This artist surely knows how to draw a delicious looking meal!10/10. ♥. I've played ton's of VN's, Don't always write reviews on them.. just the one's that stand out the extra mile! Strawberry Vinegar was cute all the way through! I try to limit my screen shots to a limited amount per game but unfortunately with this one I just couldn't stop.. the food in this game looked SO GOOD!! Beautiful game, beautiful artwork, a decent story, really hard not to like it & rate it up! :) I love cooking & with this, I was just too excited to see what meal would come up next.. I even had to find real recipes online for some and make them myself at home to enjoy. Opened up a totally new dinner menu for me this month ;) <3. Very unique, interesting VN. The amazing theme never breaks throughout the entire novel. The artwork is so unique. Well laid out, perfect story. Lots of funny bits. Strawberry Vinegar is now near the top of my best VN list.. Strawberry Vinegar is a short and sweet VN about food and demons. While this seems like an odd theme for a VN, it works out surprisingly well. ebi-hime's VN's never fail to deliver an interesting story packed with emotion and solid writing. You follow the story of Rie, a nine year old girl who is not fond of other people. Licia, a demon of gluttony, appears to her one day threatening to take her soul if Rie doesn't feed her. The two bond over various sweets and foods, leaving player choice to decide what their bond turns into. Overall the story is very cute with a very fitting fluffy pastry theme and features a potential friendship and/or romance between younger characters which is not too common in most VN's I've read. As with most of ebi-hime's cuter novels, there's a fair share of sadness and comedy as well as sweet mushy romance. The VN makes for a nice mix of unique combonations that somehow work perfectly together. My one biggest complaint about this VN is that the additional content found in the author's notes was scrapped. There was so much potential for Licia to have sisters for every sin (she herself representing gluttony), and while they had designs and names planned out they were removed. I would have loved to see a longer cut of this VN with their story lines added, or maybe a sequel with otome elements and additonal characters. Speaking of the additional content, the art is very pleasing to look at, and the music gives the story just a little bit more life. While it may not be everyone's preferred anime-esque style it certainly is a favorite of mine and really ties the entire VN together. I always have high praises for ebi-hime's visual novels, and Strawberry Vinegar is no different. If you like cute romance stories, VNs about food or demons (or both), give this one a read and check out ebi-hime's other work as well.. Don't play this game while hungry. It exhibits some images of extremely tasty-looking food. Pros:- Over-the-top cuteness- Gorgeous artwork, featuring doll-like characters- Interesting story- Good writing- Multiple story paths, including bad and good endings- Some humor- Yuri (cute & romantic, not erotic)- FoodCons:- Some typos- A lot of recycled dialogue, but that's common of VNsSuper cute yuri story! I definitely recommend to those who like VNs and works of ebi-hime.. ProsNice light hearted story revolving around food and friendship.Gives you a warm fuzzy feeling.Music & art were really well done. ConsDepending on choices, certain characters appear moody and lack emotional maturity.A buy if you like ebi-hime's previous works.. When I bought this game, I thought it was going to be just like other visual novels, but I wasn't prepared for the amount of cuteness in this game! The are style is fantastic and beautiful. The music was really great and each character going through different emotions was wonderful. The different routes you can take in the game was amazing because you can either get a bad ending or a good ending and I think this game was really funny a lot of the time and was an enjoyable experience and I would gladly recommend this game and play it over and over!. My full review can be found here.[www.the-backlog.net]Strawberry Vinegar follows the story of young Sakuraba Rie, a girl who has her life upturned after a demon shows up that will reap her soul if she doesn't feed this demon food. For the next week (6 days, because weeks don't have 7 days in Hell), Licia will be living with Rie and her family, and yes - there will be lots of food.Strawberry Vinegar is one of my favourite VN's I've read, despite how hungry it made me. The artwork is extremely charming, and the characters are very likeable. There are 6 endings to aim for in the game, and each is sure to make your mouth water with how much food you are shown. I did find some minor odd spelling issues (such as "parents" in place of "patients"), but they didn't detract from the story too much.I highly suggest this game to anyone who loves food and/or good stories. There is some hint of female love, especially in some of the endings, but considering for the bulk of the game Rie and Licia are 9, don't expect much.Disclaimer: I was provided a key by the publisher for review purposes.
